Android Earthquake Alerts System
- set aside as
- DEFINITION REJECTS
- the researcher's note
- Android Earthquake Alerts System. Provisional reject, and I would like it revisited. The Science paper (Allen et al., 2025, doi 10.1126/science.ads4779) says only "smartphone-based earthquake detection algorithms"; Google's own blog describes the accelerometer trigger and the server-side aggregation without naming anything fit to data. Only secondary write-ups call it machine learning. Under "never by suspicion" that is a reject; a line in the paper's methods naming a trained detector or a fitted magnitude estimator would make this one of the largest severe-benefit rows available anywhere.
